Check before you buy toilets
- Measure your trap before you shop. Floor-outlet (S-trap) toilets are sold for set distances from the wall. CERA, for example, lists 220 mm and 300 mm versions, while P-trap toilets exit through the wall. In a renovation, the wrong trap distance means breaking the floor.
- Rimless bowls are worth it. With no rim channel, there's nowhere for stains and bacteria to hide, and a quick brush reaches everywhere.
- Choose dual flush (e.g. about 3/4.5 L or 3/6 L). It saves water every day, which matters if your supply comes from a well or a limited overhead tank.
- A wall-hung toilet needs a concealed cistern and a sturdy frame or wall, planned at the construction or renovation stage. Leave an access panel (the flush plate) for servicing.
- Check the pressure the flush valve or tankless design needs. Tankless and some flush-valve toilets need strong direct pressure, which most overhead-tank homes don't have. A cistern toilet is the safe choice.
What is the difference between S-trap and P-trap?
An S-trap toilet drains through the floor and a P-trap drains through the wall behind it. Look at where your existing waste pipe comes out, and for S-trap, measure from the finished wall to the centre of the floor outlet. That tells us exactly which model will fit.
Is a wall-hung toilet strong enough?
Yes. When fixed to a proper concealed-cistern frame or a solid wall, wall-hung toilets are built to carry an adult's weight comfortably. The key is correct installation, which is why we recommend an experienced plumber.
One-piece or two-piece: which should I buy?
One-piece toilets look sleeker and are easier to clean because there's no gap between the bowl and the cistern. Two-piece toilets cost less and are simpler to repair. Both flush equally well within the same brand tier.
