Check before you buy bathroom accessories
  • For damp Kerala bathrooms, choose brass or SS304 accessories with good plating. Cheap alloy or thin-plated items can pit and rust within a monsoon or two.
  • Buy accessories in one set and finish (chrome, black or brushed) to match your faucets. Mixed shades of 'chrome' look noticeably off side by side.
  • Before drilling tiles, confirm where the concealed water lines run. Keep accessories clear of pipe routes and drill with a tile bit, without hammer mode.
  • Mount the towel rail within reach of the shower but outside the direct spray, and put the toilet-roll holder on the side away from the health faucet.
  • Use tempered glass for shelves and partitions. It is much stronger and breaks into blunt pieces if it ever fails.
Stainless steel or brass accessories?
Both work well. Brass with chrome plating feels heavier and matches premium faucets. SS304 stainless resists rust naturally and suits budget-conscious or high-humidity spaces. Avoid unbranded 'stainless' of unknown grade.
Can I fix accessories without drilling?
Adhesive options exist for light items, but for towel rails and shelves in a wet area, screw fixing into the wall with proper anchors is far more reliable.
How do I keep accessories shiny?
Wipe with a soft damp cloth and mild soap, then dry. Avoid acid-based tile cleaners and scouring pads, which strip plating over time.
