Check before you buy HDPE pipes
- For long runs from a well or pump house to the house or farm, a single HDPE coil cuts out most joints, which is where leaks usually start.
- HDPE cannot be glued. Budget for electrofusion or compression fittings and the right jointing method from the start.
- Compare PN rating and grade, not only wall thickness. A PE 100 pipe reaches the same pressure class as PE 80 with a thinner wall.
- HDPE is for cold water. For hot water use CPVC.
When should I use HDPE instead of PVC?
Choose HDPE for long buried or exposed runs, irrigation and pump lines where flexibility and fewer joints matter. uPVC is usually simpler for rigid in-house plumbing.
What does PN 6 or PN 10 mean?
PN is the nominal working pressure in bar. PN 10 is rated for about 10 bar (roughly 100 m of water head). Pick one comfortably above your system's maximum pressure.
Is HDPE pipe safe for drinking water?
Yes. Brands we stock make HDPE to IS 4984 for potable water: Astral lists HDPE Pro as food-grade, and Supreme's PE pipes are tested by WRc-NSF (UK).
